Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 25, 2026

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how GenZearn collects, uses, stores, and discloses personal information when students, parents/guardians, tutors, and school partners use our platform.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, such as account registration details (name, email, role), tutor profile content, learning preferences, messages, and support requests. We also collect transactional details needed for bookings and payments, plus limited device and usage information to protect accounts and improve reliability.

3. How We Use Information

We use personal information to operate tutoring services, match students and tutors, process bookings and payments, send confirmations, provide customer support, detect fraud or abuse, enforce our terms, and comply with legal obligations.

4. FERPA Commitments (U.S. Education Records)

When GenZearn receives or processes student education records from a school or district, we act consistent with FERPA requirements. We use those records only for authorized educational purposes, limit internal access to personnel with a legitimate educational interest, and support school-directed requests to access, correct, or delete education records where applicable.

5. COPPA Commitments (Children Under 13 in the U.S.)

For children under 13, GenZearn follows COPPA-aligned practices where required. This includes obtaining verifiable parent/guardian consent before collecting personal information from a child (unless a specific COPPA exception applies), collecting only information reasonably necessary for tutoring services, and providing parents/guardians with methods to review, request deletion, or revoke consent for their child’s data.

6. Parent/Guardian and Minor Rights

Parents/guardians may contact us to review or request deletion of a minor’s account information, manage consent preferences, and report safety concerns. Teens and adult students may also request access, correction, or deletion of account information, subject to legal and operational retention requirements.

7. How We Share Information

We do not sell personal information. We share data only when needed to provide services, including with payment processors, cloud hosting vendors, communications providers, and analytics/security services under contractual safeguards. We may also disclose information when required by law, legal process, or to protect users and platform security.

8. Data Retention and Security

We retain personal information only as long as necessary for educational services, legal compliance, dispute resolution, and security. We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or loss.

9. International and State-Specific Disclosures

Depending on your location, you may have additional privacy rights under state or national law. If such rights apply, you can submit a request through our Contact page and we will process it as required by applicable law.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and provide notice through the platform or other reasonable channels.
